Total over haul and recolor done to Agent R who is on the “Actor3” RPG Maker VX sheet. I recolored her clothes to be black made her hair whiter and did this to sprite face and monster versions of her. Before making this secondary place holder for her in battle I was just using RPG Maker VX’s succubus battle character.
At the end of Scene 2 you’re pincer attacked by waves of Special Ops agents. The little Special Ops sprites I did not make, however I’m going to custom edit them further and make my own version based on these, atm these are very nice placeholder images and give the look and feel that I like. I used Tektek again to make both monster images.
Lab scene B2 is 80% finished Event wise! The only events that are left to make a quick transport or some sort of elaborate launching scene to move Zinko from the lower left corner of the Map cause if you’ll have gone that way it’s a dead end. Instead of leaving players stranded there to back track and fight monsters, they’ll be redirected to the correct path.
Agent R will be waiting for you at the end of the scene and this time you don’t do battle but she starts a timer event which I have yet to test once it counts down to zero. I spent the rest of my time tweeking the event text the character movements and the transition to Lab Scene B3!
I just did some simple effects in photoshop to the default RPG Maker VX slime to make it look like oil. No RPG is complete with out a slime starter minion. Feel free to download and use this one for your own projects.

Lab Scene B2 is coming together! It all started as just a pen sketch and has greatly evolved. I’m about to leave it “as is” at the moment because it’s such a huge map 80×60 and I want to tweak so many parts of it. For now it’s functional, there are monster encounters, Zinko will lvl to lvl 2 by the time you get to Scene 3. I need to finish up the Scene 3 events (which I haven’t started on) but have fresh in my mind what I would like to implement.
The resource I’m using to make human type place holder monsters is a site called Tektek.org and the Gaia Dream Avatar Creator from the web baised MMO Gaia Online. Tektek uses all avaiable items for your avatar from Gaia to make a spiffy looking little character.
Here’s the link to one of the Rookie Agents I made if you would like to make one too.
I’m going to sketch out bigger more detailed versions of these with my Wacom tablet but the look of these characters at least makes the game more playable and helps me collect my thoughts better.
To create some nice Anime style facesets for your characters when they speek I used Face Your Manga to create a Rookie Agent’s face.
In the Area 51 RPG world the company that represents Google is called Rummage. I’ve created a tribute search engine for my “Google” look-a-like, (it’s powered by Google hehe). But this is just for fun, and gives you a Google type feel.
I will try to update it more to make it more Google-like when I get the chance. Plans include the bottom results to say “Rummmmmmmmmmage” with the 1st 10 pages. Until then, enjoy!
Well I’ve done a bunch of browsing around and found a whole treasure trove of resources for face avatar making. I’m completely satisfied for sprites and facesets so far and any other modifications i’ll just custom make in photoshop. I’ve hit a road block with monsters only because I’m worried about the source I’m going to generate the characters from.
I’m really inspired by the look of the characters however they’re part of an online community so they’re not technically free to use. The last thing I want to do is have monsters created in the game an then some company coming after me or have to redo them all.
So from now on I’m going to use it simply as a place holder also for idea generation to make my own vector versions based on the generations, since the look of the monsters I would much rather have in vector format.
Many thanks go out to Kawashima Arts for making a mouse type sprite which I was able to custom edit and combine with the current Zinko sprite that I had 1st made. It came out great and I’m really happy with it!!! So no more edits on Zinko unless they are to make different expressions of the face which should be very easy!
Look fimilar? Well yes Rummage is the web search company in Area51 RPG that is going to have it’s hands in everything and eventualy have control over all worldwide information in 2012, what else will happen in 2012? Well you’ll just have to wait and find out.
The intro escape scene although very painstaking taught me a lot about how to use event’s effectively and I strove to delve deeper into more special effects that will be relatively new to RPG’s of this style. The teleport isn’t one of them but the night vision goggles event is an integral part of the next map making it essential to find and use them.
Similar to Agent R’s teleport effect, this takes you to LAB B2
The basic event for this mini console screen will be used on many of the screens that you will see in B1 they will help tell the story of who Zinko is and other beginner (tutorial-like) info such as this.
With the Night Vision Goggles equiped Zinko can now see hidden items and light dark rooms.
It’s a very tedious event but after spending much of Friday night I streamlined the process and am confident I will be able to reproduce it throughout the game. Will the Night Vision Goggles be with you throughout the game? Is to be determined.
Just incase you didn’t read the informational mini screen on how to equip the Goggles I made an event that will semi force you to put them on if you have them in you inventory, and “auto equip” them for you.
